2 Year Old Bear Birthday Party

Nov 03

Sharing this two year old kids’ bear birthday party with rustic details, plaid and bear themed cookies, perfect for a winter party!

Bear birthday party theme

I love a simple party theme for kids. When they’re little, they’re happy with anything for themes, but soon enough, they’re choosing lego parties and mermaid parties. But two? Two is so much fun! We call our youngest Calder Bear. We have since he was a newborn, so this party theme seemed like such a natural fit.

This is a very much use what you have party theme with just a few additions so it’s super affordable, but also super cute. It has a rustic winter vibe but all the bears keep it cute and kid friendly. Let’s get to the details!

The first thing I decided for this party is I wanted to do a bear cut out for the cake. I made this on my cricut, adding my hand lettering (2) to a bear shape that was from Cricut Design Space. I stuck them into the cake with toothpicks taped to the back. I love that I can dream something up and cut it out in just a few minutes with my Cricut. You can see more about how I cut my own images with my Cricut here.

For the cake, I just used box chocolate cake mixes and store bought icing. Kids don’t know the difference and even adults can’t, I always get compliments on how yummy it is. I did an almost naked cake with lots of oreo crumbs and love, love how this turned out! It was one of the easiest kids birthday cakes I’ve ever created and honestly it was also one of my favourites to look at!

I wanted to keep it pretty neutral, but no tablescape is complete without a *little* bit of colour. I had this piece of plaid material I was planning to make pillow covers with. Buying material instead of pre-made table runners will save you so much money! Just head to your fabric store and browse the clearance section. If you would like it to look a little more finished, you could hem the edges. I just bunched it up for a casual look- so cute!

Birthday Board Idea for Kids Parties

When my kids were little, I loved to add these boards with all their details as they were growing and changing so quickly. This 2nd birthday is the last time I made one for any of our kids- they are so fun though! I made this one with a paint pen (this brand is my fave paint pen to use) and a wood blank like this one (I later turned it over to make this decor!). I made it as guests were walking in so if you were to take more time and lay it out better, I’m sure you would be obsessed with your results ;)

I love a simple and modern backdrop for every party table. This one is super affordable… it’s just dollar store poster boards! I painted on the back side (matte) of them with my watercolour paints (you can also get those at the dollar store, but I love this set). I used pretty much the same tree tutorial that I blogged about here. I copied a bear from a grizzly photo. Then, I just cut these out with scissors leaving a white edge around all the watercolour lines. I love how playful these are!

The ‘Calder Bear’ lettering is cut out of brown cardstock with my Cricut as well. I like how the modern font plays with the rustic trees and theme. The balloons are just from the dollar store and I always pass on the ballon weight, we have a few I keep at home now and a crate or chair looks cuter anyways ;)

That little tree is actually a mini christmas tree! Isn’t it cute with the theme? Years ago, I used christmas decorations for my other son’s first birthday party as well. They can be so versatile if they don’t have santas on them ;)

Rustic birthday party food

I went pretty minimal with the snacks here. We usually put a veggie tray out on the counter for guests to snack on as a healthy alternative… it helps keep my party table pretty and colour coordinated ha! My husband laughs at me for this but really… isn’t it cuter this way?

For food, we had the cake, of course, but also some snacky chips, peanut butter sandwiches, and treats. His birthday is in November, and if I’m being honest- it’s a tiring season, right after the twins birthday, halloween, thanksgiving and my own birthday. So I doubled down on premade food here. Oreos, animal crackers, rainbow bit rice krispies cut smaller… he was so happy with these treats that we rarely have and they were next to no work for me (win-win).

S'more marshmallow pops for a rustic birthday party

Even the ‘fancy’ snacks were pretty easy. I dipped large marshmallows in melted chocolate and crumbled graham crackers and served them like cake pops using paper straws standing in a vase of coffee beans (expired, really- they had to be tossed anyway, lol). Toddlers love marshmallow pops- I made them for the twins first birthday too!.

I also had chocolate covered raisins as bear poop and bear cookies. The bear cookies are just grocery bakery shortbread cookies that I added the bear sprinkles to with icing. These sprinkle kits were available at our dollar store, aren’t they cute!

And really, that’s all there is to it! I am so in love with how it turned out for minimal effort. The bear theme is such a cute rustic birthday party idea- and it’s affordable to boot!

Look at how much he enjoyed it!
