Modern Spiderman Birthday Party Ideas

Jan 24

This last minute party decor is perfect for a modern Spiderman birthday party, using dollar store supplies and some crafting!

DIY Spiderman birthday party ideas

Getting an almost four year old to decide on anything is a trick. Especially when his birthday is just a couple days after Christmas. When W turned 4, he decided *very* last minute that he wanted a Spiderman themed birthday party. We hit up the dollar store and with some last minute crafting, had this fun, modern and super affordable Spiderman birthday party ready for him!

We kept the decor pretty simple, and the cost matched. The party decor cost under $15 for us and the snacks were just as simple. All he wanted was his cousins to celebrate with, cake, candy, and punch balloons (check!), so he was easy to please. Now that our kids are older, that list has gotten a little longer, but we do love to keep things simple wherever we can.

I’ve said before and I’m sure I’ll say it again, poster boards from the dollar store are so versatile and affordable for making high impact kids party decorations. You This spider web was easy to make by cutting strips of black poster board and using double sided tape to attach it to the wall to make a large spider web backdrop for this spiderman party. I cut out the red spider using my Cricut, but you could just use scissors and a printed template!

I typically choose a colour or two, pair it with black and white and call that the party decor colours. But W found this pack of Spiderman balloons at the dollar store and really wanted them, so we chose to use allll the colours for this particular party. We made a bundle of balloons just using string and hung it to the side of the spider web back drop. We added a smaller mylar four balloon. You can get these at the dollar store and they’re just blown up with air, so no helium cost!

He really wanted to have a Spiderman table cloth but they didn’t have any at the dollar store we went to so we agreed on cutting out some letters with the Cricut to make a happy birthday sign right on the table instead. You could opt for a banner from the store instead, but this was fun to create in his party theme colours. He also asked to cut out some super hero masks… which really aren’t spiderman themed at all, but what a four year old wants… he gets sometimes ;)

We did grab some themed plates and napkins, but DIYed the party bags just using paper lunch bags. I drew some spiders with the guests (cousins!) names and we filled them with some treats, tattoos and punch balloons (our kids really love these!). All of this was from… you guessed it, the dollar store ;)

The only other thing we did is that spider web cake! I used black gel icing to draw a spider web on the cake and then red icing to make the spider. It’s so simple, anyone can really decorate the cake this way, no special skills required and it looks totally cool with the spiderman birthday party theme!

That’s it! Super simple and easy to pull off. Because we’ve had a few comments on it when I share parties in Instagram stories, we do cut up veggies and have jugs of water on the counter too… they just don’t find their way to the party table ;)

I love that by crafting with dollar store supplies I’m able to pull together a fun spiderman birthday party theme for a fraction of the price of themed party decor! Plus, I love the look of this giant spiderweb backdrop better than any happy birthday spiderman banner ;)
