I know that I haven’t finished two of the rooms I’ve shared design boards for… but that’s because the design boards are the easy part… then there’s sourcing and painting and ohmygoodness so much painting and then cleaning up from kids so I can start styling and then cleaning up from kids before I can photograph and then cleaning up from kids again… you get the idea. But one of them is going to be wrapped up any day here for me to share with you and the other we’ve put on pause while we focus on really fun things… like replacing all the windows in our house. Ha!
Today I’m excited to share yet another one with you- our living room! A week or two ago, I joined in on a spring home tour and shared photos of our living room. It was the first time I shared the space and I knew it was about to change but couldn’t help share! The sectional we had in there was so comfy but really wasn’t holding up great. Plus, we have been watching TV (our only TV is in our basement) on a futon. So we were excited to upgrade upstairs to move the comfy couch into the basement for our Netflix marathons! Let’s check out the ‘before’.
Alright… here’s the before. This is from last summer when we moved in. You can see all the ‘before’ photos of our place right here. If you spotted our spring home tour… you’ll have noticed a few things. That green paint is gone! I have one more wall to go upstairs until it’s all completely white. Woohoo! The colour we’ve chosen is called Expert White from General Paint. The floors have also changed! We couldn’t get any of this flooring to patch when we moved the kitchen. It’s now a light white/grey oak laminate.
As I mentioned, our sectional had taken a beating over the past year and a half. We didn’t realize how much of a pain keeping a cloth sofa clean would be with our little ones (we have 4!) so have decided to go back to leather (before our current one, we had hand-me-downs from my dad that were SO easy to clean!). We love the warm feel of the leather ottoman slipcover I made and especially love how beautifully it aged so we picked the tan colour. We also wanted to upgrade the rug that we had in there- it was a beautiful rug but has seen better days… I mean… you can see exactly where we walked and the kids played, it’s worn right down to the lining!
Other than that… I wanted to come up with something striking for the wall above the sofa. That’s one loooong white wall. And as much as I love how bright and white it is, you totally notice how empty it is (see what I mean here). I’m working on some DIY tree ring art, but my backup plan is prints from Etsy! I used this one in the design board.
Okay, speaking of progress on this room… we did totally get the leather sectional! Cue the happy dance! I’m talking more about choosing the perfect one in partnership with Article next week but now I’m having a hard time finding perfect chairs. These ones are really big and I’d love to keep it open in here so am thinking of selling these for the sake of picking ones more suited to this home. If you see any amazing chairs that aren’t giant… send them my way!
The other thing that we were looking at is coffee tables! I have loved my leather ottoman but it won’t work with the leather couch as well. SO we are on the hunt. I am in LOVE with the look of this round metal one and think I’m going to have to find a way to buy it (we don’t have one in town and they don’t ship here- bummer!).
Alright… that’s what we’ve got planned! I can’t wait to show you how it’s coming together! And the other spaces we’re working on ;) Because there’s so much changing every week. It’s such a fun process!
