Modern Dollar Store DIY Wreath for Spring

Mar 04

This modern dollar store DIY wreath for spring is so simple to make using just a few supplies from the dollar store and brings a fresh boho vibe without the traditional wreath form.

DIY Dollar Store Wreath for Spring- Boho Style

I’m so freaking happy with how this little DIY came out you guys! It’s modern but boho and super affordable to pull together for a little update to my office for spring.

I think you’re going to see every wreath I ever make styled on this barn door from now on because I love it so much. And it was a lot of work so I want to show it off- ha! This door is giant which makes this wreath look a little small, but it adds some really nice colour and texture in this white space!

I’ve been challenging myself to create decor that I love using dollar store craft supplies. I’m always amazed at how good the supplies really are! This DIY is using supplies from a few different dollar stores but definitely rings in under $10. It cost me $1.25 because I had everything else at home left over from other dollar store DIYs. Bonus!

I’m sharing this modern dollar store DIY wreath for spring as part of the Seasonal Simplicity Spring Series with some of my blogging friends. You can scroll down to the bottom of this post to see all of their wreaths! They’re so pretty!

Okay, let’s get down to the tutorial!

DIY Dollar Store Wreath for Spring- Boho Style

For this Modern Dollar Store DIY Wreath, you’ll Need:

  • 1 Wooden dowel
  • 1 Piece faux greenery
  • Wire cutters
  • Hot glue gun
  • String- either macrame cord OR cotton poultry string (in the cooking section)
  • Wooden beads

Okay, so this was pretty simple to make. I started by tying the string to the dowel to create a hanging dowel. You can eyeball how much you want it to hang below your nail/hook. I tied it on and used hot glue to keep those ties in place.

Let’s talk about the string… I ran out of the cotton poultry string that I started this project with (leftover from this macrame DIY) so switched to macrame cord. They are SO similar. Macrame cotton is a bit thicker, but not even by much. So totally grab some of the cotton string from the cooking section next time you’re at the dollar store!

Next, I added the wooden beads. I had made wooden beads from the dollar store into a garland a while back and never ended up using it in my home like I’d planned. I did use it for this party though. The dollar store beads have variance in colour which I didn’t love for table decor but look totally cute in this hanging! Just string them on and tie it on to your dowel.

Next, I added a tassel made from macrame string. You just grab a small book and wrap your string around until it looks like enough. Slide it off and tie off the top, then snip the bottom loops to make a tassel. I hot glued this in place as well.

Lastly, I added the faux greenery. I’m actually so darn impressed with the faux greenery I picked up from Dollarama. Like… it looks pretty freaking good, right?! I just used one piece from the stem, so have a lot leftover I need to brainstorm more DIYs! Use wire cutters to cut your faux greenery to length and then hot glue it on to the dowel.

That’s it! Simple but so pretty! This modern DIY dollar store wreath for spring was really easy to pull together and I’m impressing myself with how good it looks for the price tag. This is why I love DIY, you guys!

Anyone else feeling the balance between work and f Anyone else feeling the balance between work and family and rest and keeping your house liveable has all just toppled this year? I keep seeing articles about pandemic fatigue and long term stress and burnout and while it’s totally relatable, I really just want tips on how to actually deal with that. I thought I’d share some things that are helping me if you’re in the same boat... and I’d love if you shared your tips in the comments! We could all use them 🥰
-I’ve been going for a walk every day by myself. Even when it’s freaking cold like today, I just bundle. It’s the only time I get truly to myself with no kiddo asking for something and that I don’t have to try squeeze in an email or something else.
-I’ve been putting the instant pot to work and leaning on cheater meals (local soup mixes are amazing), Costco dinners... whatever
- I’m prioritizing friendships with phone calls, zoom games nights and group chats about the bachelor (with matching snacks!)
- I’ve given myself a schedule that has downtime to play with the kids and to read... even when there’s things I feel like I ‘should be’ doing
- I’ve realized exactly how much time I’ve been spending on my phone and that it’s become my response to stress. Have you ever looked up your screen time analytics? 🥴 look at how many times you pick it up in your day. I’m setting app limits for myself and trying to break this habit, but I’d really love tips!

This tool is what we used for this accent wall and all the trim in our home. It’s the one I used to trim out my built in shelving and add the decorative moulding to my geometric barn door. What I’m saying is this thing is a workhorse and I want you to have one too 😉

The hallway is finally finished and I’m so stink The hallway is finally finished and I’m so stinking happy!

It’s felt like such a long time coming for such a small space. Since we moved in 2.5 years ago, this space has seen new doors and hardware, new trim, new floors... twice😅, we changed the boob light to a pot light and I hated it and now it’s got the most beautiful flush mount fixture I’m in love with (thanks @mymitzi!). It finally got some fresh paint and now frames on walls and last but not least... After this weekend, the new floors look like they were here all along (no door jamb gaps!) which was the last thing really bugging me since our flood last year.

All this to say that home takes time and sometimes getting it right might take a couple tries. Also- the spaces we don’t really think about (hallways) can totally help a house feel like home with some love (and family photos 🥰)
ps. I partnered with #mymitzi to create a tiktok for This makeover... are you following me over there yet?! I’d love if you popped over and said hi!
