Casual Black + White Flocked Tree Decor

Nov 19

This skinny flocked tree is full of playful DIY decor in black, white, and wood ornaments to bring some holiday cheer into my office. Sharing all the details on this casual black and white flocked tree decor today!

Black and White Flocked Skinny Tree

This is the first year I’ve had a Christmas tree in my office and I can’t tell you how excited I am about this. It takes away all the stress of reorganizing our family Christmas tree to photograph my blog projects and it brings me such joy while I’m down here working late at night.

Today I’m so excited to be joining up with some amazing bloggers for the My Home Style Blog Hop Christmas Tree Edition, hosted by my friend Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living. This hop is all about sharing different styles of Christmas trees so if you’re looking for inspiration to try something new, I know you’re going to love it!  If you’re here from Two Twenty One on the tour, welcome!

Love all the DIY ornaments on this black and white tree!

Okay, let’s get to the tree! I went with a different style then our main tree (which is much more natural, you can see that here) to stick with the black, white and wood details that I have in my office. I’ve always wanted a pre-lit flocked tree so I guess this is my  trial to see if I love it for when we finally decide to splurge on a new family tree!

Since this was a tree for my DIY blogger office I wanted to DIY everything I could for it. Plus, I bought a tree so wanted to save on the ornaments ;) Everything on the tree but the ribbon is a DIY! I’ll be making more detailed tutorials for those over the next few days here on the blog, but you can find them all now over on my YouTube video and I’ve described each of them in this post below!

So this space is really little. I know it looks bigger on camera, but almost every person that actually comes over mentioned that it’s smaller than they thought it would be. So I knew that if I were to get a Christmas tree in here, it would need to be a skinny one. I found this flocked baby at Michaels on a 50% off sale and had originally gone in for a different one that was under $100 but then this one wouldn’t let me leave without it. It knew it would look so darn good in here.

Felt garland for christmas tree decor

I picked up this black velvet winner from HomeSense and wrapped it around first. I love ribbon wrapped around a tree, it adds so much movement when it’s on an angle like this. Next up, I decided to make some felt letter garlands for the tree. I actually made some of these years ago and was just going to pull them out to use but couldn’t find them! It worked out though, I took the time to record how to make them so I could put it all in the video. You can find the written tutorial right here.

Next up, I’ve been making a bunch of these ornaments this year and thought I should definitely add some to my tree! I hand lettered the white wooden ones with a black paint marker. Last year I used these ornaments as gift toppers for my friends’ gifts- I really love the way they look on a tree! The acrylic ones I painted the back with craft paint and then lettered the front with a gold leaf marker. All this was from Michaels as well!

I used these same clear acrylic ornaments to make some engraved ones this year, you can see them here!

DIY Boho Christmas Ornament

Next up was these adorable boho ornaments. I made these wooden bead tassels using supplies I already had on hand in my craft room, but all of the supplies are from dollar stores over the years. I made a full blog post sharing how to make these boho tassel ornaments right here. I love the texture these add to the tree! I want to make more for my main tree upstairs.

DIY Instax Photo Ornament

Last but not least are the super fun Instax photo ornaments! These were a last minute addition, I found an extra box of film and snapped some photos of my toddler who was playing in my office while I crafted and of my friend when she popped in to work with me for a bit. All of my kids now want me to make one of them for our main tree!

I wrote a full blog post and video tutorial on these DIY Photo Ornaments here. These would make amazing gift tags too- don’t you think?!

Alright, those are all the DIYs! And just for kicks I had to throw in another photo showing the difference between the lights off and it all lit up. I love a glowing tree, they really just bring me so much joy!

Oh! One last thing Stephanie has asked us to do as part of this tour is to describe our tree style in just three words. I honestly find it so hard to describe my style on any given day but this specific tree I had an easier time with- I chose casual, crafty, and neutral. Although now that I’m looking at it, I should have chosen another C word for some solid alliteration. Do you find it easy to describe your style?

Alright, if you are looking for more tree inspiration, there is SO many beautiful trees in this group! If you’re taking the tour, the next stop for you is Iris Nacole!
