Saint Patricks Day Floral Centrepiece

Feb 26

DIY Saint Patrick's Day Floral Centrepiece- using grocery store flowers!

Saint Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, you guys! Last year I went all out for the holiday and it was a ton of fun. This year I’m keeping it simple but still want to have a few fun things. Growing up, we had some leprechaun window clings and that was the extent of it- classy? Probably not, but fun as a kid. Now that I have a family of my own, I want them to remember holidays as something special so I’ve been making an effort. This Saint Patrick’s Day floral centrepiece is minimal effort, frugal (one of my requirements), and it even brings a bit of class to this holiday! I originally shared it last year over at Pretty Providence, but love it so much I thought I’d share it with you all this year.

This arrangement uses only flowers you can grab from your grocery store which makes it perfectly affordable and simple to pull off. As much as I love hitting up the florist for fresh flowers, my favourite one is across town and with three kids in tow- that happens less than I’d like. If you stick the the floral arrangement and stop before adding any of the green- you can have a beautiful arrangement for any season.

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Saint Patrick’s Day Floral Centrepiece:

  • 1 Bunch of White Mums (available at the grocery florist)
  • 1 Bunch of White Tulips (also available at the grocery florist)
  • Gold Vase
  • Green Glitter
  • Scissors
  • Green Feathers

Before you get started, clean up your flowers. start by cutting them on a diagonal and removing any leaves that will fall below the water. This will help them keep fresh longer. Then, add warm water to your vase and begin adding stems of mums to the vase as pictured- with the heads around the edge of the vase, and the stems ending on the opposite side of the vase (creating a web in the vase). This ‘web’ will help all the other flowers stay in place.

Finish filling in all the mums before adding the tulips at random places in the ‘pouff’ of mums. I like to put two together and space the rest out to get a random look.

You could stop here for an arrangement that’s good year round, but I added in some green feathers (which seems to be everyone’s favourite part) and some green glitter to make it perfect for St. Pattys. The feathers came from a dollar store craft pack, and so did the glitter. Place the feathers in randomly as well- again, I like to place a couple bunches to keep it from looking too perfectly spaced out. Next, sprinkle glitter generously over the whole arrangement. I used two different types of glitter. It looks like a ton of glitter- before you blow it off! By blowing the glitter off the flowers, it settles into the base of the petals for a more subtle look.

See how the glitter gets stuck in the base of the flower petals? Much better than piled on top! How easy is that? I love having flowers in the house (even for no occasion) but my budget limits me to grocery store florals- I love that by getting a bit creative these basic flowers can look so festive!
