Decorate for Spring With Less | Home Tour

Mar 17

Welcome to my spring home tour! I’m sharing how I decorate for spring with less actual decorations for a seasonal but clutter-free family home.

Spring Home Tour

Each home tour, I start with kind of the same disclaimer. This time I thought I’d just make it the whole theme of the post. Because I think it’s something so many of us are looking for. You don’t need to go crazy to make your home feel welcoming and seasonally decorated. Like… you don’t need to do much at all.

I truly love doing these home tours because it reminds me to do a clean sweep at the start of each season and it gives me a reason to buy myself a bouquet of flowers, but I used to spend hours making new decorations or shopping for seasonal knick knacks and now? I pulled out what I had and didn’t even use it all.

If you’re not there and more is more for you, I get that! I’ve teamed up with SO many amazing home decor bloggers for the Seasonal Simplicity Spring Home Tour and some of them have all the more you could ask for (in the most beautiful way). You can check them all out below!

I’ve been slowly finishing off spaces in our home as we complete our renovation. Most recently, we finished the dining room (I haven’t blogged about it yet, so enjoy this peek) and now that we have art on the walls… other than throwing a centrepiece of sorts on the table, I don’t really want to add anything in here and clutter it up! Like… we can clutter it up enough with our daily activities!

And in our kitchen? There is nothing more calming for our family than clear counters. There’s white space left in our home, for sure… but that’s on purpose at this point. Changing things out I can do seasonally, but adding? That’s not something I really want to do. I actually had a few things I’ve made over the past few years that I didn’t end up using, just because I couldn’t find space for them even though I really do like them.

While it’s a bit disappointing that I don’t have anywhere I love for a couple things (like this beautiful wreath), it’s also freeing to know that our house is exactly how we love it. And that I don’t need to fill it with more stuff to love it more.

So with that said, here’s the things I always change up seasonally:

  • Letterboards, signs and/or chalkboards
  • Seasonal foliage or florals
  • Wreaths
  • Mantel

I sat here staring at that list for a while and guys… that’s actually it. Other than those things, I put out a couple crafts I’ve done over the years that I love still. You can see that little ‘Hip Hop’ sign by the sink or the watercolour bunny in with my plants on my console for example.

I snuck in that little easter egg pennant above the light switches in my dining room/kitchen and a little glass basket of fake eggs on the counter as well.

As for fresh florals? Few things bring me as much joy as fresh cut flowers. They really make me happy, so I tend to reward myself for cleaning for a house tour or party by buying myself a small bouquet. I usually buy individual stems and greenery from the florist, but there was a cute bouquet for a steal the last time I popped in there. I broke it up and spread it between a few vases to enjoy around the house.

In the entry, we put away the basket of mitts and toques (there’s still some lightweight ones in the bench) and we usually have a lineup of gumboots here. I put all but mine away so it didn’t look too cluttered for this tour, though.

I’m trying to switch things up a little bit and moved vases around between my mantel and console, but really… things are staying the same here for the most part, guys. Maybe I should try switch it up more before my summer tour ;P But I’ve had my eye out for a new vase to put up here and haven’t found ‘THE’ one yet. I’ll keep looking.

Alright, in closing I am loving how my home is feeling more and more as we near the end of our main floor common area renovation. We have some work to do but there’s such a sense of joy when you add things in and take things out and find exactly what you like to have in a space and what that extra thing is that all of a sudden makes it feel like clutter. Or like you have to move it around to actually use your space. Do you know what I mean?

If you’re looking to decorate for the season, I hope this inspires you to maybe take some things out and see how it feels instead of adding more in. You might surprise yourself and fall more in love with your home.

What a great example of “less is more”. Those two (what I saw) eggs just scattered on your coffee table. We all do tend to overdue when a little says so much more.

Would you be willing to divulge the color of your kitchen cabinets? I am renovating the kitchen in our new house and that color is amazing. I would love to color match!

Of course! The colour is Dakota from General Paint. They use the colour journeys system so you need to search their colours in there: https://www.colorjourneys.ca/en/cj_bucket_3_column_foyer_nuetralground/neutrals/#422F IF you don’t though, sherwin williams thunderous is almost identical!
