Organic Modern Thanksgiving Tablescape

Sep 24

A Modern Thanksgiving Tablescape

You guys! This is one of my favourite posts to do each year. Since I started blogging we also started a Friendsgiving tradition that we did every year until last year (when I was 30+ weeks pregnant and mid bathroom renovation!). This year- I’m excited to get back at it! This month for the Modern Handmade Home series, we partnered with Kitchen Stuff Plus again to share Thanksgiving entertaining designs so it was the perfect opportunity to get it set up and photographed a little early for you!

Setting an autumn tablescape

I always love trying something new with my tablescapes and this time around that means pink!? I know that’s not usual for my neutral black and white loving self- but I can’t get over how beautifully it works with the dark autumn foliage. It’s such a lovely twist on typical fall colours. Ready to see the details?

This tablescape honestly felt like a celebration. We still aren’t done our renovation, but our kitchen is totally functional and so we’ve been washing up dishes and starting to eat off of glass!? and with real cutlery!? I actually got new flatware for my birthday last year and left it in the box since we were packing up to move. And we’ve been looking forward to new dish ware for such a long time since our old dishes were lower quality and had lots of scuffs and black marks from use. We had been doing so much research and when we were partnering with Kitchen Stuff Plus and spotted these beautifully minimalist dishes… I was in love! I can’t tell you guys how many dishes I looked at before these. They’re called the Ashford Coupe series and they’re part of their A La Carte collections so you can order as many or as little of each piece as you want. I’m so happy with these babies and how they looked stacked on our open shelving (can’t wait to show you that!). But for now… let’s look at them on a tablescape!

In all of my tablescapes, I’ve always tried to hide my dishes in some way. Large place cards, napkins on top of plates… but this time around I was so excited to show them off since I didn’t need to hide knife marks!! I tucked these beautiful napkins that I found from a small local shop underneath the side plate and topped it all off with a beautiful Japanese maple leaf. They’re so dainty and beautiful! I stuck with those dark tones in the foliage and added some dark maple leaves under all the decor down the table. I really wanted to challenge myself to stay away from the traditional red and oranges of autumn decor. The very first year we hosted a Friendsgiving, my dad dropped off bunches and bunches of beautiful florals. My photography wasn’t great back then so it totally doesn’t give it justice, but the deep burgundy and pinks were so beautiful for the autumn season.

Aubrey and I went to my dad’s to pick some flowers for this tablescape again this year and when I spotted those deep purples and those pinks? I knew I wanted to run with that colour scheme again. Paired with some of my favourite mini pumpkins (these are just a few dollars for a bag at my grocery store!) and I was loving how this came together. Once I set in the beautiful white serving dishes and saw how the black hairpin on the Barnet 3 Tier serving tray played with our black cutlery and the dark maple leaves… I still can’t get enough. I’m excited to pull this set up back out in a couple weeks for our friends!

The one thing that I didn’t do this time around? And now that I’m editing these photos and comparing it to previous years… it’s the first time I’ve EVER shared a tablescape without place cards! I always, always letter the names of our friends and family that are coming over. But I think that plays into how minimal and simple it is on those pretty white plates and then all the busy, full-of-decor-runner down the centre? I don’t even know where those place cards would have sat.

Other than the tiered serving tray, I had a couple other white serving dishes- I love the modern edge on this Large Plank Oval Platter– they’re so clean and fresh from other serving trays that I have! The size is really nice too- the Nuevo chips and dip tray held the sourdough loaf for our spinach dip perfectly!

Autumn Entertaining- setting a modern table

I did want to warm it up a little bit and incorporate some natural elements as well. The Acacia Wood Paddle Cutting Board for cheese and the granite serving board helped bring in a little more texture and warmth that otherwise all white serve ware would have had. I used these same serving trays for our outdoor summer tablescape and really do get so much use out of these pieces!

The only other thing I wanted to mention is these super pretty crystal glasses! We got them in two sizes (Godinger Triangle Glass), the tall and the shorter ones and I can’t stop looking at them. I love the diamond pattern and feel like I’m a real grown up now that I have matching fancy glasses. What is it about fancy glasses that has me feeling like a total adult? They’re so pretty!

Alright, I think I’m going to leave it at that. I so enjoyed creating this post in partnership with Kitchen Stuff Plus and can’t wait to set it back up for my friends in a couple weeks!
