DIY Pom Pom Bunny Tail Tea Towel

Mar 16

DIY Bunny Tail Tea Towel... isn't this adorable?! I love the pom pom

The weather is getting warmer around here and I don’t know about you, but I am starting to look forward to Easter which is somehow less than two weeks away! I crafted up this DIY bunny tail tea towel last year to share at Honest to Nod and have yet to share it here. I thought I better sneak it in before the holiday passes again. Weren’t the twins adorably small?! When we were photographing the towel, the kids had a blast pretending to ‘bake’ ice cream. I’m pretty sure they still think that’s how it’s made… because it’s sweet. And everything sweet is baked, of course. And if you want to snag some of those ridiculously cute felt ice creams for your self- they’re from The Land of Nod… and so is that chef’s hat!

This sweet little towel is super simple to make. And, I’m happy to say that after a year of gentle use (gentle as in I use it in my kitchen and my kids sometimes haul it to bed with them because it’s ‘my bunny’), it’s still holding up well. Ready to see the how-to?

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Bunny Tail Tea Towel:

  • Printable Bunny Template
  • Tape
  • Flour Sack Tea Towel
  • Matte Black Fabric Paint (I use Tulip Soft and nothing else)
  • Paint Brush
  • Darning Needle
  • Yarn
  • Fork
  • Scissors

Start by printing out the brush stroke bunny I created for ya (for personal use, as always). Tape it down to your counter, then smooth your towel over top (iron if necessary), and tape your towel in place.

Next, use your fabric paint and a nice thick brush to paint your brush stroke bunny. I like it best with a nice thick stroke. As for fabric paint, I always vouch for Tulip brand Soft Matte Black. It’s the absolute best I’ve found. Let this dry while you make your pom pom.

To make your pom pom, wrap yarn around a large fork (I used the one that is meant for serving hams and such). I also chose to use two different colours of yarn and love the way that pom pom turned out. You could really do any colour though. Wrap, wrap, and wrap some more until you feel like it is more than enough to make a pom pom (see my picture for what I did). Then, use a piece of yarn to tightly tie it off. That’s why a fork is great- you can tie between the tines of the fork!

Next, Take your darning needle and attach the pom pom to the towel using yarn. Knot it off a few times just to be safe.

That’s it! Super cute and just as easy. I would actually love this guy framed up in my kitchen too. There’s something about framed tea towels that make the most perfect kitchen decor! But now that I’ve let the twins play with this, I’d never be allowed to frame it. Not that they’re the boss around here ;)

Awesome hand lettered free printable for easter

PS. Recognize the bunny? It’s the same one I used for my ‘Easter is for…’ printable last year. It’s still free so ‘hop’ on over and snag it!
