Doily Place Settings

DIY Handlettered Doily Place Settings- such a gorgeous (and affordable!) tablescape

So, I’m sure you’ve heard the terrible, no good news… Target Canada is closing all their stores, we officially have until early next week and then it’s gone for good. *sigh* it was a good run. Of course I’ve been closely monitoring all their sales (who isn’t?) and last week I snagged these clear plastic party plates- ummm awesome! I have been watching the price drop on the glass clear plates they have as well- but couldn’t justify the price tag (even reduced) when I’d only use them for parties. Finding these felt like a win. Why did I want them so badly? THIS is why. You can put anything underneath them and have a perfectly themed tablescape! I am using these doily place settings for a little party I’m throwing next weekend, but I couldn’t wait ’til then to test them out. So I started lettering the ‘place card’ doilies a bit early and set them up just to satisfy my need to see them in action.

Want to hear the best part about this whole table setting? The plates are only a few dollars for the pack, and the rest of the items (straws, napkins, doilies) can all be found for a dollar at Target. So this whole table set up rings in at just a few dollars (score!). How I’ll miss shopping there…

Just use a marker or pen to letter your guests names on the paper doilies and slip them under your plate as a charger. Ta-Da! Instant doily place setting. I am so in love with this little set up- talk about disposable partyware made cool. But honestly, I’ll be washing these up to use again and again. Especially since, *sniff* I won’t be able to go back and buy more!

In happier news- I’m getting really excited for a visit from out of town family next week- so I’m spending the weekend getting caught up on laundry and emails so I can spend the week relaxing with them (and probably visiting Target a couple more times too #reallife). What are you up to this weekend?

Beautiful! I just bought some of these at the dollar store but didn’t know what to do with them. Maybe you could teach me a little calligraphy.

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one that picks up bonus items at the dollar store without a purpose! Shane thinks I’m crazy :)

      We can definitely do that!

Thanks so much Denise! These are definitely a favourite of mine. One day I’d love to get glass dinner plates that I could do this with.

Ah I miss Target too. It was replaced with a Walmart, but it’s just not as fun ;) I will have to keep a look out for clear plates, because this is brilliant! So simple, affordable and pretty!

Just saw this and love the idea of using the doilies as place settings. I have square glass plates that will be perfect. The table is already covered in glass to protect it from little and big hands. Beneath the glass I have place perfectly starched and ironed decorative hankies that were my grandmother’s. (I am a grandmother, now, so they are vintage!) This will really add another dimension to the setting since I can use the smaller doilies and center them above each hankie. The glass dishes are a bargain on Amazon. 12 for about $54.

Anyone else feeling the balance between work and f Anyone else feeling the balance between work and family and rest and keeping your house liveable has all just toppled this year? I keep seeing articles about pandemic fatigue and long term stress and burnout and while it’s totally relatable, I really just want tips on how to actually deal with that. I thought I’d share some things that are helping me if you’re in the same boat... and I’d love if you shared your tips in the comments! We could all use them 🥰
-I’ve been going for a walk every day by myself. Even when it’s freaking cold like today, I just bundle. It’s the only time I get truly to myself with no kiddo asking for something and that I don’t have to try squeeze in an email or something else.
-I’ve been putting the instant pot to work and leaning on cheater meals (local soup mixes are amazing), Costco dinners... whatever
- I’m prioritizing friendships with phone calls, zoom games nights and group chats about the bachelor (with matching snacks!)
- I’ve given myself a schedule that has downtime to play with the kids and to read... even when there’s things I feel like I ‘should be’ doing
- I’ve realized exactly how much time I’ve been spending on my phone and that it’s become my response to stress. Have you ever looked up your screen time analytics? 🥴 look at how many times you pick it up in your day. I’m setting app limits for myself and trying to break this habit, but I’d really love tips!
