DIY Modern Fall Hoop Wreath

Sep 04

DIY Fall Hoop Wreath with wooden welcome sign

Today I’m excited to be joining some very talented bloggers to share our take on a wreath for autumn (scroll down to the bottom of the post to see them all)! Mine is this simple DIY Modern Fall Hoop Wreath. I actually have a fall hoop wreath (metallics!) that I love already- I made it a few years ago but it’s in a box somewhere- I haven’t been able to find my seasonal decor (only Christmas) since we moved. So this is nice to have something a bit seasonal in our home until I track that box down!

I really love the play of the black hoop with the black lettering and the flowers soften it up really nicely. I just wish we had a beautiful front door to hang it on ;) That’s coming next year, so in the meantime- here it is on our mantle! And on our kitchen shelving… I couldn’t decide where to put it, so I took photos of it in both spaces. Ready for some tips on making it?

Use wire cutters to cut fake flowers

The wreath base is just an embroidery hoop. I spray painted it with some chalkboard paint I had left over. Then, I cut down the flowers with wire cutters and hot glued the flowers on. These cute little flowers are so simple and were just a couple dollars for all of them at Michaels. I did this by overlapping the flowers and then cutting some extra short to put in the middle and hide all the stems.

Use a jigsaw to cut wood to shape of wreath

I thought it was a little plain at this point (even though I love plain!) so I added the wood banner across the middle. I had this piece of oak waiting to frame out a canvas- it’s found in the mouldings section at the hardware store and is only a couple bucks. I traced the inside of the wreath and cut it out using my jigsaw. If you have never used power saws before- a jigsaw is a great place to start! It’s pretty simple to get the hang of and less ‘dangerous’ than other larger saws.

I hand lettered on the oak using an acrylic paint marker and used my hot glue to adhere it to the inside of the hoop wreath (I put the glue towards the back so you couldn’t see it from the front. I chose to hang it with the flowers to the side and love how that changes the look!

That’s it, that’s all! I hope that you are inspired to try something a little different for your fall decor. If you give this DIY or something inspired by it a try- I’d so love to see a photo!
