DIY Holiday Centrepieces with Fresh Greens

DIY Holiday Centrepiece using fresh winter greens- two different ways! Natural decor is my favourite Christmas decor

DIY Holiday Centrepiece using fresh winter greens- two different ways! Natural decor is my favourite Christmas decor

It’s no secret I love florals, so one of the things that gets me excited about the holiday season is bringing fresh winter greenery indoors. Nothing beats the scent and the rich colours. Plus, you can grab most of them from your yard or park, and even if you hit the florist- they’re a screaming deal to bring something beautiful into your home compared to other types of flowers. Did I mention they’re pretty darn forgiving to work with? Except for the prickles, but hey- nobody’s perfect. Today I’m sharing not one, but two holiday centrepieces made using fresh winter greens. The first centrepiece is a classic cedar and spruce long and low centrepiece with gold tipped pinecones and a pillar candle. It reminds me of the faux centrepiece we had on our Christmas table growing up. The second is a more muted, asymmetrical arrangement that features great height, juniper, spruce, eucalyptus, berries and of course gold tipped pinecones.

To show you how to assemble these simple arrangements, I’ve partnered with Shaw TV to bring you a short and sweet DIY video! Check it out for all my tips, then get foraging ;)

What do you think? Pretty simple, right? In the past, I’ve used more of the bold greens like the cedar and pine. But this year I’m really loving the dusty greens in the juniper and spruce. There’s really so many ways you can play with winter greens.

The more muted one I kept inside (even though it was totally October when we filmed this) and it lasted for a few weeks. The more traditional one is out on my patio table and the cool weather has left it looking as beautiful as the day it was made. The morning frost actually makes the whole thing look about 100x more gorgeous if you ask me. I’ll probably be making something similar to the second, muted one again closer to Christmas. PS… isn’t that vase amazing!? I found it at Homesense for $6.99. Score! Anyways… what are your favourite holiday centrepieces? Do you love fresh greens as much as I do?

These are such beautiful centerpieces. I like how you put different greens together to make it more interesting and give it more texture.

Thanks so much Mary! I used to stick with cedar, cedar, cedar because that’s what my dad grows- but I’m loving how well it mixes this year!

Thanks so much Lisa! I think winter greens are the easiest of florals to arrange… you really can’t go wrong!
