DIY Tulip Arrangement for Spring

May 01

This isn’t so much a DIY because it’s SO stinkin’ simple- but I’m going to call it one anyway! I mentioned earlier this week that I’m going to start using flowers that are actually in season in my area for my monthly floral feature. This month? Being ‘April’ because I’m running late… is tulips! They’ve been on special at my grocery store and after walking by them every week, I caved and bought some. This arrangement would be the perfect gift for a mama with Mother’s Day coming up! But you’ll probably keep it for yourself.

I paid $2.49 for a bunch of 5 stems and used 4 (I would have grabbed another but they didn’t have any more in white). The galvanized pail is from the dollar store and the ribbon I had on hand. This arrangement rings in under $15 including tax- sweet! So here’s the step-by-step (all three of them).

When I brought my flowers home, they hadn’t opened up. A florist once gave me a tip to cut the stems on an angle and stick in warm water to open them up quicker. I did this a few times that night until they’d opened up enough to use them. If you weren’t going to give or photograph them right away, you could skip this step and let them open up once arranged. Once you’re ready: lay each stem into one hand, so the curves of the stem all go in the same direction. Cut them to length and place in your container.

Simple? I told you so :) I wrapped some fuchsia grosgrain ribbon around to make it fancy for giving.

What flowers are in season in your area?  I’d love to hear!

I love tulips! We have them here right now as well. We also have poppies, peonies, and candytuft in bloom and some of the wisteria, magnolia and dogwoods are still blooming but the heat will kill their flowers pretty soon.

I just googled candytuft- I’ve never heard of it! I wish we had poppies and peonies in bloom right now, those are two of my favourites!

love how you filled the pot with leafy greens and white tulips – the contrast is so pretty!

Thanks Jennifer! Leaves are such a great filler.
