Casual Easter Tablescape | 3 Ways to Use Tart Pans for Decor

Apr 06

Decorating a casual Easter Tablescape using items you might already have at home- tart pans! 3 Creative ways to use tart pans for decor for this simple spring table setting.

Spring table setting

I’m not sure about you, but I’m guessing your Easter dinner is going to look a little different this year. But no matter who will be at your table this year, I think it’s still so important to celebrate moments and one of my favourite ways to do that is to put a little party into it. I’m the mom that loves decorating for kids birthday parties and making the dinner table a little bit fancy? I’m here for that too.

So I’d actually planned a different spring tablescape but took it off my publishing calendar when the world started changing a few weeks ago. But then I wanted to participate in a $5 goodwill challenge over on YouTube and the only thing I had kicking around from the thrift store that I’d yet to use was these tart pans. I’d bought them with intentions of using them for holiday decor but I just didn’t get around to it.

I actually struggled a lot to figure out what to do with them. I was scrolling Pinterest for ideas when my son came over and started asking questions. He actually suggested that they’d look pretty on a fancy table like I make. So I had to take him up on that suggestion.

I ended up sharing this casual Easter tablescape using vintage tart pans- which turned into 3 (or 4) ways to use tart pans for decor. Ready for it? Here we go!

3 Ideas for Tart Pans as Decor
Tart Pans as Candle Holders

Use Tart Pans for Candle Holders

This is so simple, it’s totally not a DIY. Just throw a candle in there. I love the look of pillar candles in these but could only find two pillar candles. It looks like this girl needs to put a trip to IKEA on her calendar for the summer. I ended up using tealights since it’s what I had on hand. If I were to plan ahead and do this again, I would probably try use pillar candles to add some height to the tablescape. But I really do love how the light from the low tealights reflect in the tart pans.

Okay, next up is these little nests for Easter eggs. I just tried putting three eggs in there and it was fine, but not super cute. I went and added some grasses from my garden and all of a sudden it was charming.

This was my kids favourite part. Turns out they have a drawer full of grass in their dresser drawer. I found out because they complimented the tablescape but were also mad that I took their grass. I must have looked confused so they ran to check that it was still here. Kids are weird, you guys.

These Easter eggs are fake that I snagged from Michaels a couple (few?) years ago. I think they’ve been in every single spring home tour I’ve ever put on the blog. I love how neutral they are but the gold speckles make them feel special. I’ve lost probably half of them to kids pre-Easter egg hunts.

2 Place Card Ideas using Tart Pans

Tart Pan Place Cards

This one could count as one or two, depending how badly you wanted to have four ways to use tart pans. I started by cutting out circles the size of the tart pan (the bottoms pop out so it’s easy to trace) and hand lettering the names using my Tombow Dual Brush Pen which gives such great variation in thickness of the lines and the bold strokes work so well with the simpler tablescape.

I used a Natalie Malan paper from Cricut for these place cards because I have some leftover from a previous project… I LOVE her papers so much. It’s double sided so I used both sides for different place settings.

Then I ran out of this one sheet of paper so got creative and made a second style place setting. I cut strips of paper to wrap around the tart pan bottom and lettered names with my Tombow Fude which has a much smaller tip. I tucked a few small pieces of grasses in there to finish it off.

I love how the two different place cards add interest to the table and even more texture.

Setting the tablescape

I finished off the tablescape with my simple white dishware and black flatware. This is our everyday dishes, I don’t have a fancy set. I love that they can be used with any fancy table and that the black flatware (IKEA!) adds contrast.

I added some light grey napkins I picked up from a local shop but since I only have 6 of those, I added some of my DIY napkins I made ages ago. Can you even tell? They’re almost the same colour, but have raw edges. A whole set of them only cost me $2 ;)

I kept the casual tablescape low and opted for the short glasses for the table instead of our usual taller ones. They reflect the candle light being so low as well, I had to photograph it with the candles lit!
