Books on Hooks: Simple Storage Solution

Nov 12

Simple Storage Solution! Book Baskets on Hooks

Is anyone else feeling the November pressure? Every time around this year I get so overwhelmed and my to-do list feels out of control. It doesn’t seem to matter what I’m doing or what I’ve taken on, I think it has a lot to do with dear daylight savings. Today is a really simple organization or storage solution to help get at least ONE thing in your life under control. We love books, although we try limit the amount of toys that come into our house, we will never turn down a book. So we have a lot. And they were everywhere! With two cribs in our babes little room there wasn’t space for a book shelf. We’re using a crate in our living room, but had too many books.

The solution we came up with is incredibly functional for what we need, and it takes up a tiny corner that wouldn’t have even fit a small piece of furniture. Wire baskets on hooks!  This rocks because I can bring down a basket at a time for them to sort through, they’ll be able to put them away and then I can just hook the basket back up on the wall! It’s been working so well for us and I love that I don’t have a massive basket of books that gets dumped out every time they want one book.

The hooks are just standard coat hooks, but they’ve been re-enforced with 150lb drywall anchors. The baskets are actually from the shower storage section at Target and they came with cloth liners. I pulled the cloth liners out so we could see which books were in which baskets. I don’t really have ‘in progress’ photos for you since we just lined ’em up and mounted the hooks. But what I do have for you is a glowing review and the recommendation that you do this right away in your home if you have a books-being-everywhere issue like me! Or am I the only one that struggles with this problem?

Ps. I guess I you’ve all seen my kids room by now, although I haven’t officially posted a ‘room reveal’. I’m working on it though! I just need to get their curtains UP and a piece of art finished. But just incase you hadn’t picked up on it- the room with the cribs is their room. And we did go through with the two-tone walls (and their star mobile, felt wall hangings, and tie dye sheets).

I love this basket idea! I did something similar to this for my little guy’s bath toys. But, I really need to do this for some of his books. Sigh – one of many projects that must get done. ;)

Thanks Julie! We have the frog pod for our kids bath toys, but a metal basket would be perfect! Isn’t there a never ending to do list of amazing projects to do? Look at what Pinterest has made us ;)

This week, we are going through our daughter’s books and paring them down for donation because we’ve simply outgrown our storage solutions. I might have to have the hubby install a few baskets now!

It’s been a lifesaver for us Sarah! We’ve been cleansing toys though, so I get the feeling :)

I really like this idea, but curious if it scratches the walls much….

Hi Michelle, It definitely does scratch the wall a bit- but that’s with three kids using this as a ladder for the past few years ;)
