DIY Faux Marble Clock

Oct 02

Friends, I’m SO excited to introduce you to Amanda- Lemon Thistle’s newest DIY contributor!  She has amazing style and she works on a budget just like most of us- so I know you’ll love her. If you think you’d be a great fit for Lemon Thistle- I want to hear from you! Check out or Contributors page for more info.

Hello, there! I’m Amanda the diy-er, fixer-upper and wanna be chef over at onthecornerofbrodhead.com!  #OCBblog is where I share all of the design and renovation solutions I dream up during the day.  And because I like to keep it all on a budget (the thing my husband appreciates most about me), things can get pretty creative! Creative is my nice way of saying craAazy!

DIY Faux Marble Clock

So I’ve gotta confess, the reason I try to keep everything on budget is because, well, I have a tendency to have expensive taste.  I swear I can spot, rather smell, something expensive from a mile away!  But recently I had a bit of a wake up call over this marble clock.  At first glance it was perfect!  Everything you could ever ask for in a wall clock.  Except, that’s right you guessed it, the price.  There was no way I could justify a $270 price tag. No way. No how.

But I knew I could make my very own version of the marble clock and with a few added details I may even prefer it over the original! And I do!  I really really do!

DIY Faux Marble Clock

DIY Faux Marble Clock Supply List:

  • Wooden Wall Clock Base (I used this one)
  • Clock Movement Kit
  • Clock Hands Kit
  • Clock Numbers or Markers
  • Pretty Paper (I used this one)
  • Spray Paint
  • Modge Podge
  • Exacto Knife

This project is so easy, but I’ll walk you through some of the steps!

1. First thing is first, using your trusty exacto knife and the clock base as your template, carefully cut the paper to the proper size and shape.  Its really important to use a shiny new exacto blade so that it creates a nice clean cut edge rather then a jagged yucky one.

2. Once the paper is cut to size go ahead and coat the clock base with that oh so magical modge podge!  Yea, remember the days of modge podge?!  I come from a long line of diy-ers and crafters, and there was always an endless supply of modge podge.  Oddly enough, this is the first project of my own that I’ve used modge podge! #modgepodgeforlife

3. OK. This step is the most difficult. Very carefully smooth the paper onto the modge podged base, using a credit card to smooth out the bubbles as you go.

4. Time for more modge podge!  I coated the paper as well as the sides of the clock base to seal everything up real nice.

5. While everything is drying go ahead and give the clock hands a coat of spray paint.  I was so excited to find this rose gold shade at my local craft store, but use whatever color you fancy!

6. Now its assembly time!  My round clock base already came with a hole in the center for the clock mechanism so all I needed to do was read the packaging and follow the directions.

7. Bam! You have your very own Faux Marble Clock!

So a few things I’ve thought about after completing this project… The options are seriously endless with this one! Don’t feel limited.  Get creative with the paper. Wallpaper, contact paper or even wrapping would all work great for this project!  Same goes for the base of the clock.  Plywood, cork board or heck even foam core board would all make a great base!  I happen to like the way my clock looks leaning up against the wall, but it would be as equally lovely if you added a hook and hung it on the wall.

So what do you think? Are you guys down with the marble trend?  What other papers would you use to totally personalize your own clock?

Follow me on Facebook, see what I’m up to on Instagram and chat with me on Twitter! This was fun you guys!! I’m already scheming up another super easy project for next month!
