Books I love about home cut flower gardening for beginners

May 12

Sharing my favorite books and resources for home cut flower gardening specifically for beginners!

My favourite books for home cut flower gardening

Since I decided I wanted to use my limited garden space for cut flower gardens… I’ve dug in and tried to learn as much as I can to make that small space as productive as possible. Today I thought I’d share my favourite resources that have helped me learn to make my cut flower garden little but mighty!

First up, a few books that I’ve purchased or been gifted over the past few years. I have read more than this, but these are definitely my favourites out of the ones I’ve read.

  1. The Flower Garden: How to Grow Flowers from Seed – Clare Foster + Sabina Ruber This book is a great introduction to gardening and talks about growing flowers from seed in detail. it talks about pests and diseases and is a great introductory overview. It doesn’t specifically talk about cut flowers though, just all flowers.
  2. Floret Farm’s Cut Flower Garden is an amazing overview of cut flower gardening. It talks about the how but also provides so many different examples of cut flowers with an overview of each. It’s a great place to start if you’re deciding what to grow in your cut flower garden.
  3. My favourite flower to grow is probably the dahlia. It’s no surprise that I love Floret Farm’s Discovering Dahlias book! Erin from Floret always shares such helpful information in a way that isn’t intimidating and makes me feel like I can take on any task.

Beyond books, I’ve learned so much from online resources. Reading blogs and watching YouTube videos and signing up for mini-workshops has been so helpful for me. But there’s one I keep returning to. And this will come as no surprise.

Floret Farms has a full website with tutorials, blog articles and mini workshop series you can access through their newsletter. Their content is so thorough and helpful, I definitely recommend following along! They’re also one of the stores I love to order seeds through!

If you’d like some more information on cut flower gardening from a fellow beginner, I’ve shared allll the cut flower varieties I grow myself in this blog post here as well as all the shops that I buy cut flower seeds and tubers from in Canada right here. I also shared a little vlog about starting a cut flower garden last year if you’re interested!
