Frosted Whites Christmas Tree

Nov 20

Sharing this neutral and family friendly frosted whites Christmas tree with you today! With so much texture and an alternative to a flocked tree, this Christmas tree is perfectly neutral to add hour holiday colours.

Family friendly Christmas tree with neutral colours, natural details and modern DIY touches

Today I’m excited to share our Christmas tree with you! I’m joining in with some amazingly eclectic bloggers for the My Home Style Blog Hop Christmas Tree Edition and holy smokes- there’s so many styles it’s crazy cool. So if you’re joining from Lovely Indeed on the tour- welcome!

I went with my go-to style… basically the same tree we’ve had for the past three years – adding something a little different each year. We are actually going to add a bit more before this weekend when I’m going to share how easy it is to change up a neutral tree like this with just a few ornaments over on YouTube, but until then… let’s take a peek at this baby!

We were asked to describe our tree style in three words and holy smokes, you guys. It’s dang hard to name your own style. I could probably name yours in a hot minute. The three words I landed on were frosted, white, and… rustic. I still am not sure about the last one there. It has a lot of wood elements so I thought that was pretty fitting. But I also have black details which is pretty modern, no? *sigh* see, it’s so tough to name your own style. Let’s just stick to ‘Frosted Whites Christmas Tree’ shall we?.

We were gifted this tree five or six years ago as a handmedown and we totally love how big it is (the perfect size for this house!) and how realistic the branches on the outside are. One day we would love a flocked tree (I even got Shane on board with this!) but that’s not high on our priority list right now for savings so we’ve been filling the gaps in this tree with flocked pine picks from Michaels.

I was so sad this year when I went to grab a couple more and they don’t sell them anymore! I should have stocked up last year. I think we have 10 now that we use in the tree to help fill gaps and add some texture to the tree. I like to let them stick out a little longer than the other branches so they really stand out. It’s a little bit of flocking, but it sure goes a long way- especially in the evening when it’s lit by the tree lights! I also added some long glittery pinecone picks from Homesense this year. They came in a pack of 5 or 6 and I love how they add some wild dimension- especially to the top of the tree with that curled one!

Oh! Before I get on to the decorations… I added two different kinds of lights this year as suggested by Mandy at Vintage Revivals and holy smokes it makes the tree magic. I love it! We wrap our tree in lights every year and I love how it really lets us pack the lights on there but Shane is team ‘prelit tree’ for our next one.

Flocked Tree alternative- love these flocked picks in the tree to fill it out! So much more attainable than a fully flocked tree for a family

Other than picks and lights… I throw that garland/ ribbon on before anything else. It’s a birch paper ribbon we were given for a photoshoot a few years back and I LOVE it. But haven’t been able to find anything like it in stores or online. We need at least two more rolls of it so we don’t have to space it out so much (and to make the back even!). This year I’ve FOUND IT (affiliate link). It’s on order and should be here by the end of the week!

After the garland is on, I add in the biggest ornaments first like these pretty wooden snowflakes and frosted leaves. Spacing the big ornaments out first is such a good starting point- then it’s easy to add in the smaller ones evenly. Most of our ornaments have been collected over time. The wooden clothespin snowflakes were a craft I did with Aubrey last year, the acrylic mistletoe and feathers are from a little boutique locally, the black and white bells are from Homesense, the monkeys are gifts from good friends, and the white marquee letters are gifts from overseas family.

The wooden stars are a DIY- so I can point you to those, though! I have both the hand lettered wooden stars on there and the glittered stars (both some of my faves!). I also have a tutorial for those hand lettered glass balls! Oh! And those black sparkly pinecones are from Superstore if you’re Canadian! They’re just not on their website but definitely available again this year.

Do you have a tree topper? We’ve never had one in our 10 years of marriage. We’ve always said we would get one but then every year we either back out because we’re spending all our money on gifts this time of year or I get cold feet because I’ve grown to love having no tree topper. Instead, we have this sweet little birdie from Michaels at the top of the tree. Plus- being white it suits the frosted whites Christmas tree theme! Our kids have been casually asking for a star this year so this might be the year we cave, though. Kids change everything! They will also change every ornament on this tree. Within 24 hours.

Lots of gorgeous ornaments... that aren't glass! Perfect classy tree for families Beautiful white decorations on this family christmas tree

This is literally minutes after they walked in the door last night! See Emmitt sneaking out from behind the couch down there? Ha!

And what about a tree skirt? I have never fallen in love with a store bought one in my price range. I made this one years ago and after tying it on this year I had the idea to use a sheep skin rug we had in our bedroom but has sitting homeless since we moved here last year (the rug was just too small for the new room!). I LOVE the fullness and texture it brings to the tree- it looks lovely even without presents down there!

Love the idea of a sheepskin rug instead of a tree skirt

Kid friendly Christmas tree- so many beautiful ornaments that ARENT BREAKABLE!

Alright… I’m going to leave it at that! Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out our frosted whites christmas tree! I can’t wait to show you which colour(s) we chose to sprinkle in on Saturday when I share my tree with three different colour options over on YouTube! Are you following along over there yet? I’d so love if you did!

Now hop on, friends! There are SO many beautiful trees in this tour! Next stop on the tour is my colourful friend (and blog conference roomie!) Amber Oliver! Big thank you to Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living for organizing this whole hop! I’ve never been part of a hop with such a variety of styles, it’s truly so fun to check out all these eclectic trees!
