Back to School Mail – And a Printable

Aug 08

Send some back to school mail - lemonthistle.com

I can’t believe some kids are back in school already! Around here, school starts in September so there’s a few weeks of summer vacation left. I’m a super bad procrastinator so last year left the ‘back to school mail’ until my nieces and nephews were actually back in school. But all the buzz around blogland encouraged me to get on it a bit sooner this year.

My kids are way too young for school, but each year more nieces and nephews and friends kids are reaching that age. Since we live far away from a lot of them, last year I decided it would be fun to start the tradition of sending them a back to school surprise to show them we’re thinking of them. Plus- I don’t know a kid that doesn’t love to get mail that’s addressed to them.  Last year I used some padded envelopes and dressed them up with washi tape (you can check them out here), but this year I thought it would be fun to send a little box. I filled them with confetti made out of tissue paper, and then added the treats. I included scissors, pencils, a pencil sharpener, notebook, erasers, and some stickers- but you could fill it with pretty much anything you like. I painted the boxes with fun watercolor, then addressed them in fancy script.

I also included a little note to each of them, saying how excited we are for them (grade one is a big deal), y’know, that sort of thing. I used these gorgeous pencil themed notecards from Caravan Shoppe which are available for free download (I love them so much- I can’t believe some of the beautiful stuff that’s available for free on the internet!).

I don’t have any children, but I DO have a niece starting kindergarten. It’s been a rough summer for her and this is the cutest idea to brighten up her day! I’m tearing up thinking about how much it will bless her. Thank you for the idea. #makingmonday

S was just looking over my shoulder and said how much she could have something like this! Then I scrolled down and she saw her name… Don’t know if she is putting it all together. Lol. You are too thoughtful!

I love this idea. I’m a sucker for school supplies even though I’m clearly not in school anymore, but would have loved to get this in the mail as a kid. So sweet and thoughtful. Thanks for sharing at The Makers!
