Hello Colleen,

My wife and I purchased a split level with a similar layout to yours and I had a quick question. When you walk from the front door landing down to the basement, it looks like you a full wall on that right hand side. But what do you have on the left hand side? Is it a full wall, pony wall, railing, etc? Thanks for sharing what you can!

How did you fill in the holes left when you put in the bolts to hold the railing on.

In reply to Denise Curran. Hi Denise, Colleen has linked everything she can in the post. I just checked and the links for the supplies are working - most were from Home Depot. The stain was leftover, they colour matched it to their flooring.

i cannot find any examples of my type of spilt level stairs so many are showing actually bi level stairs. My bannister/ railing starts at the top of the five stairs connected to the wall and then goes down and turns at the bottom two stairs, not connected to wall but with a post in the last step. I am looking for videos and suggestions on how to replace that type of bannister/railing.

In reply to Justin. This definitely felt rock solid! We used lag bolts into the wall below which was 2x into the floor joists. We no longer live there but I would have no hesitation to do this again.
